Who loves to eat peeps EVEN MORE when they're a little stale and crunchy? I do! I do!

Re: Stale Peeps

Re: Stale Peeps
Wed, October 27, 2004 - 5:28 PMDo we know the length of the lifecycle of a peep?
And, Jeeze, I bet pretty darn stale...I'm talkin' like, 4 or 5 days, sitting around in an open package... -

Re: Stale Peeps
Tue, November 16, 2004 - 1:17 PMMy impression was that Peeps had a shelf life comparable to Twinkies. . . which means they will be around a lot longer than any of us will be.

Re: Stale Peeps
Tue, November 16, 2004 - 8:23 PMI have a chick Peep that's been sitting on the edge of a cubicle holding an umbrella since last Easter. It has surprisingly NOT turned to stone. Not a chance in hell I'd eat it now as I'm sure it's covered in dust, but I do give it a little poke now and then just to see how it's doing.

Re: Stale Peeps
Tue, November 16, 2004 - 8:21 PMStale Peeps totally rock! It's pretty much the only way I eat them anymore. I was in the store last night and they had Halloween Pumpkin Peeps on sale for 30 cents a package. I was thrilled- bought them all and promptly poked holes in the wrappers. Just a few more days til they're nice and ripe. Yum! -

Re: Stale Peeps
Wed, November 17, 2004 - 8:20 PMI will be sure to take one tomorrow.
On an even better note though...
A guy who's working in our lab this week and I started talking about Peeps somehow. He told me he keeps Peeps opened in his wine cellar and lets them age. He's had some for YEARS. When he goes back to Buffalo he's gonna send me a photo. Says he's got all the different kinds and that people send them to him from around the world. Crazy!
We went to lunch today and then stopped by a grocery store and bought the last 20 or so packages of pumpkins and scary cats they had left over from Halloweeen. .32 each- What a bargain! We've now scattered open boxes around the office.

No way! Your mom is in good company. I think we all may have thought that though at first until we found this tribe. This place is a Stale Peep Support Group. :) I think I now know more people who eat them stale than fresh and squishy.
Peeps age like fine wine. I have some in the office that Ive been muching on that are so hard they're semi-crunchy similar to space ice cream. -

Sun, February 27, 2005 - 5:20 PMIt's the only way I eat Peeps, poke a hole in the package, stash them for a week, then scarf. -

Mon, February 28, 2005 - 8:25 PMBrian......How's your Peep Aficionado friend? I can't believe he's got an international Peeps collection in his wine cellar. I wonder how the Peeps fare in there......and are there actually different "nationalities" of Peeps around the world??
PS the pic of your Peep office mate is hilarious :P! Thanks for sending it through. -

Re: Stale Peeps
Wed, March 2, 2005 - 6:18 AMI actually haven't talked to him in a month or so. I never said INTERNATIONAL Peeps collection (did I?). He says they harden down there.
Has anyone else had the Valentines hearts Peeps? They come in Vanilla and Strawberry. The vanilla ones are best. I bought a bunch of packages when the went on sale after Valentines Day and cut open several packages so they would "age" over the weekend and when I came in Monday morning I could smell my office from quite a distance away. It had the most amazing vanilla aroma.
Anyway... When these Valentines Peeps age they get very crunchy. I think they have an extra layer of sugar coating and end up kind of powdery when aged. -

Sounds like a load of Peep immigrants to me! So what's the dealio with your friend? International Peeps, or simply American Peeps who've been around the world and then simply happen to get sent back "home" for some cellar aging?
Im so very interested in this Peep collection! :P
